did you try the safe VGA options on the install disk?, I don't know what
they are off hand but some quick googling should turn something up.

would it be crazy to pull out the hard drive and do the *buntu install
from another machine with the same mobo, and then just plug it in
again? (obviously without installing nvidia drivers etc...) Could be
crazy enough to work!
