Really?? Doesn't seem gentle and without being rude. Just stating you
are not rude does not make it so.
Appears very much like you are taking it personally that my values are
different from yours, therefore I am wrong/deceived/bragging. Saying
things such as "If you were really so passionate ... " *is* flamebait,
and *is* rude.
If you want to sit locked in your dark tower crying freedom then don't install
anything you dont like on any mother board you choose.
Partially correct. I will indeed sit in my dark tower crying freedom and
not install anything I don't like, and I don't see how you have the
right to deny me of (or ridicule me for) that .... but ....
I was hoping there may be hardware that would also work while I sit in
my tower. I was hoping I could have a functioning machine while not
enabling non-free repositories. I guess you can't help there.
I also am not forcing you to do the same, nor at any point did I suggest
you shouldn't hold your own values, or that you were wrong, so I don't
understand your need to push your ideas onto me.
Redhat make this easy to do and CentOS follows them.
So do other distro's, and that is what will allow me the right to sit in
my dark tower. I won't be installing binary blobs or non-free software,
not sure why you think that is crap, I guess our personal choices are
different.
If you were really so passionate about your feelings then methinks you'd not
need to ask such silly questions.
Clearly you are not being rude or stirring flames!
I am passionate.
Not sure why the question is silly.
Does anyone know of hardware that will allow me to sit in my dark tower
and only use the software I "choose" to? While the reason for the
question may be based on a philosophical view, the question itself is
purely technical, Is there hardware that will let me run my choice of
software?
If you are seeking bragging rights, then just install CentOS and proclaim how
noble you are.
Actually I was wondering if there was a motherboard that worked with
only free software. Bragging doesn't actually come into it. But thank
you for making me feel like an outcast here because I choose free
software (not the forum I expected this to happen).
Obviously you don't feel strongly about licensing, but that doesn't mean
I am some sort of freak, or attention seeker because I do.
I cannot believe but to think that you are deceived, this is supposed to be
fun, not an onerous chore.
Again, no flames here! I also find it interesting that the *only*
conclusion you can come to is that I am deceived.
To me it *is* fun, I just need a little help.
James, you are entitled to your opinion, it would be nice if you
respected my same right, rather than ridicule and degrade it.
Your email provided no solution, suggestion or insight whatsoever. You
simply took offence that I choose not to run software that you are happy
to run.
If you have nothing real to offer other than telling me that my beliefs
are wrong, perhaps a better tactic would be to simply ignore my email. I
find it quite disturbing that asking a question on how to support my use
of Free Software on the SLUG mailing lists results in such a dismissive
and condescending reply.
I am sure your sentiments are not that of the wider SLUG community, if I
am wrong on that count I really have over stayed my welcome.
I will not continue this conversation with you, I don't think anyone
here would appreciate it, so if you feel the need to have the last word,
go for it, I will not be responding.
If anyone has any suggestions on motherboards I would love to hear from you.
