Any Unix based training is good, so if you learn to to script on Aix, Sun then it transfers directly to Linux. So ask at your local tafe or those night courses that come out twice a year.

Granville Tafe used to do some training in various elements and it was cheap.

Perl Training is an excellent course for Perl. I have done the courses and recommend them (Jacinta will probably post a link because I am too lazy to search).

My personal experience is that you just do it. So an approach is to find something that interests you (music, word processing, We applications) jump on board the application as a community person read emails look at the code and then start making changes and discussing them on the developer mailing list. I have needed a few things over time and just jumped in and learnt unexpected things while working on unrelated projects (much more on C++ while working supporting scripts for Libre Office for example).

If you can give us some idea of what you are interested in then we can certainly help. We can also answer any questions on Linux here, there is a deep range of Linux people here (I don't know bind but I know where to ask ;-)

So what do you want to do?

Ta
Ken
