I use IE4 Linux with Konqueror with a Context menu link (open page in ...) 

You might want to try http://ieview.mozdev.org/ which does something similar 
for firefox. You can manually set the ie executable path, so in theory it 
should work fine in a linux firefox instance.

I think the Firefox tab extension uses some sort of activeX embedding specific 
to the firefox on wintel build. (although in theory with hackery and 
crossover office it should be entirely possible to get it working on linux)

The converse (opening firefox tabs in IE) is however possible, you first need 
to setup ie4 linux with the active X ie7 trick then you can can switch 
rendering engines inside of the ie4 linux instance. 

I have set up similar setups for the web dev teams at my last employer and 
works pretty well.
