Hi all,

Thanks for your all your response!

Harish: That's a good question. To be honest, it has never occurred to me to do
it that way! i started by searching for Ubuntu and USB, and just went in the
way of "Create a USB startup disk" and Portable Linux.

RR: No, that would essentially go the same way as "Create a USB startup disk"
or Portable Linux which is what i didn't want.

C David: Thanks for the detailed suggestion. i'll try this out. i suppose the
key thing here is not to mess up the MBR of my internal harddisks.

>> /boot should be ext2 (for performance) or another GNU/Linux file system.
>> Any particular reason why you wish to use VFAT?

Sorry, some careless copy-and-paste there. i intended to say "partition an area
for "/boot"". i have not actually thought of what filesys to use. For my Ubuntu
on harddisk, i'm using reiserfs.

T J: Thanks! Yes, i suppose method 1 there is equivalent to what C David
suggested, also with special emphasis on not to install GRUB on the wrong MBR.

Thanks and Regards,
Edwin
