If ti was an ath9k wireless chip then yes, up until the july 12th patch commits to openwrt trunk they were unstable. Any builds after this date are rock solid. I have been heavily testing them and the mac80211 driver for 6months now, and can happily say they are awesome.
BTW they didn't "hang" prior to this, the issues were all ath9k wireless bugs, I have been using a TP link as my primary firewall and sip server for months with no issue (sans wireless). at71xx + ath9k boards are great for the price.
