It probably depends a great deal on how many entries you have in your database and what sort of hardware you have. We are up to around 1.6 million jobs and have never purged anything. I seem to remember the last update between major releases taking long enough to allow me to get slightly uneasy, but not long enough for me to really worry, so I guess it was probably around 10-15 minutes.
