My
plan is not to improve on the power shot but to develop another solution for
multiple AP installs and allows remote management of the power as well as
voltage adjustments for cable length and power backup.

The new powerShot™ SB2811(remote reset) already enhanced with a built-in surge protection circuit. This circuit provides protection from over voltage caused by ESD (Electrostatic discharge), EFT (Electrical Fast Transients) and Lightning. The ESD protection is to withstand to IEC 61000-4-2 specifications of 15KV. The lightning protection is to withstand IEC 61000-4-5 specification for 12A (8/20 micro seconds. Any modification on the powershot will void the warranty.

In the powerShot SB2810 v0.2 (without remote reset) and the SB2811 v0.1 (with remote reset) there is IC U1 that is connected to all 4 data pins. What is U1's function? Also, may I use the info gained from opening the PS to create my own solution and post it to this list?
