Nish;

Yesterday afternoon, every single airBridge on our network went offline at
exactly the same time, and stayed offline for at least 2 hours!! But so
did our other non-sB radios. ..because a garbage truck plowed into a
fallen utility pole, dragged the sparking electical lines for a few
hundred feet (was apparently too scared to stop the truck while the sparks
were flying). In the process, the truck got tangled up in the cables and
*pulled down* 3 more utility poles and shut off power to our entire town!!
Apparently, the cables yanked his garbage truck to a stop. Our NOC was
only offline for 2 hours. Our house (less than a mile away) was w/o
electricity for over 7.

So, once again, we see that it's user error and not manufacturer error
that caused the radios to go off line. (True story!! It's Friday! Gotta
throw some humor in there somewhere!. One of my buddies/customers was
there and saw the whole thing happen. He's a fireman and was called in
when the school was moving a portable building and hit the first utility
pole. The garbage truck came along a few minutes later and made the small
mess into a huge disaster *sigh*)

But on a more serious note...

Thanks for your update on SmartBridge's perspective. I appreciate your
involvement and attention to the concerns presented by this group.

I'd like to mention again that we have about 80 sB units (mostly
airBridges) and have had to RMA maybe 4 or 5 over the past year. That's
somewhat consistent with the numbers you presented. It's better
performance percentages than we've had with our Linksys radios (and
another manufacturer who shall remain nameless at this point in time).

I want to stick with smartBridges for our WISP needs, but have to confess
that the issues lately have been of some concern. By addressing the issues
head-on, you've eased some of my concerns.

If there are any specific manufacturing issues that we need to be aware
of, please, please let us know.

Also, I heard from a furniture dealer that container shipments across the
Pacific are being tied up at the shipping ports while being sprayed for
SARS. Have you heard anything about this? Do you know when EC and the
other US distributors will receive their units so we can resume
deployment? In my last conversation with EC, they had over 600 airTOTALs
on backorder (down from 1,500).

Thanks again.
