Chris, Thanks for the info. I see your point on the PPoE. My users are mnuch more basic, they don't touch crap normally. (Many suffer from all kinds of "spyware" installs from what I see on my usage charts (i.e. destination addresses).
I also do know the AP implementation of bandwidth shaping.. But at that point I might as well control it at my switch (which has this capability). But from what I understand of the protocol, the bridge will send data and wait for acknowledgement, if none received it will send again.. And again, and again, until its retries are expired (not getting into stepping issues here). If I am shaping at the AP, I have done nothing to stop the sending of the packet by the bridge, and therefore I have a potential packet collision issue with other packets that may be allowed (since that user has not hit their throttle). Maybe I am wrong, but I figured that is why some of the mfg's have gone to a polling system instead of an open ethernet type system (Alvarion, Navini, Motorola, a few others...). I like those too, but I am down the 802.11 standard pretty far. I found Broadlink's implementation (which sticks within the standard) rather interesting way of solving the issue. Maybe I am wrong on understanding the protocol ...
