1. Our devices is a bridge not router. Set the clients's gateway IP to the router
2. Try to power reset the device if you can't ping thru; just to make sure is not because of Mac caching problem
3. Upload aPP firmware to airBridge is forbidden and at your own risks. Warranty is questionable.

Subject: RE: [smartBridges] Clairfication of Wireless Bridge and Repater Modes

I have use a APP total for backhaul to feed an Access point. This APPtotal is aim at my main APP at the NOC.

This Backhaul is feedind a Aopen access point in access point mode.  20 computer pass this Aopen Access Point. going throught the APP total linking to the main APP at the noc.  It works just fine.!
My gateway for the Access point is my backhaul IP ( APP total ) ....... It is working... But is this correct. ???  Maybe I should use same gateway(Mikrotik router) on all equipement.

I Set all My equiptment to use the gateway of the mikrotik router. I have never had an issue with it. I do not see why you shouldnt do it.

I did the same set up to another site but I have use a Airbridge indoor for the backhaul. & a APP for access point.

However, at this location, client can ping the APP access Point, They can ping the Airbridge backhaul but can't pass the backhaul & ping the main APP at the NOC.
But from the NOC, I can ping the backhaul(airbridge) & the APP........ ( I will have to try pinging a client.)

Do I need to change that airbridge backhaul for a APP ????

I would just at the very least because the APP is more stable in my opinion of a radio.

Is their a firmware for this Airbridge that will let pass the traffic to the NOC ???

I believe you would have to use the old version and I wouldnt want to do that.

Can I upload a APP firmware in the airbridge changing it to a APP ??? ( This question is not for smartbridges.)

Not that I know of. It would be nice though :)

The tower is 70 feet & I just install it yesterday.....................I don't feel like climbing again tomorrow.

Do I really have to climb............... If so........ Why is it call a airbridge............. Maybe Airclient or AirCPE would be a best fit name.

How about If I installed a router between the backhaul & the APP staying on the same subnet ???

Jerry

You mean wireless bridge and repeater mode together. No, this is not possible.

Excellent.  I know that you only get about half throughput in repeater mode, is there any plans to change this and allow it to run in both modes simultaneously?

In point to multipoint for example, you can link the main office to 2 remote office. So it will be like creating hub and spoke or mesh environment. So yes you will need to use either sector or omni depending on your need. Point to Point will be between only 2 LAN and use directional antenna is recommended.

With this explination.   What is the Point-to-Multipoint setup used for?  My assumption it is for hitting multiple towers.  Maybe if I am running a Secotor antenna or Omni?

The airPoint-PRO can operate in four different Modes, namely
  • Access Point - In this mode the airPoint-PRO is operating as a normal 802.11b compliant Access Point. Client Info and Client Auth Tabs of simpleMonitor will be enabled in this Mode.
  • Client Bridge - In this mode the airPoint-PRO is operating as ethernet client, and you can associate it with Access Point on the LAN. SiteSurvey and Link Status Tabs of simpleMonitor will be enabled on this Mode. This Ethernet Client supports the multiple PCs. See the Application notes for more details.
  • Wireless Bridge - In this mode airPoint-PRO can bridge 2 or more LANs wirelessly. This Mode support 2 subModes as,
    1. Point to Point - This mode lets one airPoint-PRO talk to another airPoint-PRO wirelessly linking two Ethernet LANs behind together.
    2. Point to MultiPoint - This mode lets multiple airPoint-PRO linking multiple Ethernet LANs.
Wireless Bridge Tab of simpleMonior will be enabled in this mode.
  • Wireless Repeater - In this Mode airPoint-PRO radio act as Access Point and ethernet client simultaneously. The Access Point serves the local clients and client connects to the parent Access Point. Client Info, Client Auth and Link Status Tabs of simpleMonitor will be enabled on this mode. Please see the application note for more details.
Wireless Bridge mode will not function as AP mode; it is for connecting Lan to Lan.

Subject: [smartBridges] Clairfication of Wireless Bridge and Repater Modes

First off, let me tell you my current setup.

NOC with Tower, and AP Total unit.
Second Tower with AP Total Unit
The NOC has two T3s for bandwidth.

In Wireless Bridge Mode, I have two submodes.

submode 1is Point-To-Point.  This allows my AP on tower 2 to talk to my AP at my NOC.
submode 2 is Point-to-multipoint.  Correct me if I am wrong on this, but this allows that SAME AP on either tower (they are both in Wireless bridge mode) to be a Access Point for any clients. If clients are inbetween these locations, I have two towers that they can shoot at for service ..

In repeater mode, it is just like using a router once the AP grabs the signal, the APPO grabs the signal from the NOC and then sends it back out for any clients.

Now if I am wrong, which somehow I am assuming that I am, these two modes are VERY identical.

How have I read the information wrong?

Dennis
