Wellll....If you use a good amp you will keep the same SNR.  If you use something you buy off of ebay, without a name on it, you will have problems.  When we first got started, we used a couple from YDI, they were really good amps, but they just did not last.  We bought one from a named company who I will not mention, but they have a bird on them, and it SUCKED!!!  It was pumping tons of noise into the situation.  Just buy good amps and you won't have a problem.

I really believe that is a misleading statement. If you are using an amp, it is usually is due needing a stronger signal. Yes you amp the noise, but also the signal therefor keeping the same SNR. As long as you have good SNR I don't see why using an amp is a bad thing.

The amps actually amplify Noise as well as signal strength, so you will be pumping up noise on the link as well.

How is 23db receive gain not good? I'm using 20db and 15db sectors, so my clinets have got to be hearing me I figure my problem is from my wipop's 600' perch atop a hill the clients aren't quite talking loud enough I'm trying to get away from having to use big antennas. I want roaming as best I can. AM I misconstruded in the receive gain concept.
