I've heard several people say that the Teletronics AMPs are
dirty or "noisy". I'm waiting to hear back from another WISP
in the area that has a Yellow Jacket so we can look at the
difference in signal between the YDI amps we are using on the
backhauls, and the Teletronics we are using for the Access
Points. I also have to wait for the power company to get the
tree down the road off the line and get power going again first
so I can shut off the generator. (I need to get a muffler on
that stupid thing...)

As far as usefulness though, we have several YDI amps laying
around here because they did not meet up to their expectations
for power output. They don't adjust up to the total output that
they are rated, they just add 14-16db to what you put into it,
and if that doesn't add up to 250mW on a 250mW AMP, you aren't
going to get your 250mW.

We were never able to get very good distance with the YDI AMPs
and the only reason I can suspect is they weren't putting out
enough power. They may very well be excellent "clean" AMPs.
We just had bad luck with them. Since we are using different
Access Points now, we may give them another try.

I only have one thing to say, teletronics are DIRTY. There good output but
they are dirty if your going to have more than one radio then please spend
the extra cash and go with hyperlink or ydi. We are in process of putting 6
Smartbridges at one location don't ask its gonna be kewl :) We're going to
post pictures of the site I think it will make smartbridge proud we are
going to take pictures after we finish the indoor tracking and the power
cables.
We're going to either ruse standard hyperlink 250's or the high receive gain
100mw amps from hyperlink (23db receive gain) because we want to be able to
communicate with the sb's using there 2.2db rubberduckies or atleast that's
what we're hoping for 15db sectors and 20db sectors for the long shots
should hopefully handle it we just have to decide on the amps the small
100mw with high receive are our optimal choice just enough transmit to kill
the cable loss of 20' of lmr on each radio and enough receive gain to raise
those lil radio's voices yes I know it will raise the noise also but then
again oh well atleast there spectrums are clean.

I've always gotten ours from Electro-Comm (www.electro-comm.com)
or direct from Teletronics. (www.teletronics.com)
They run about $350-375 from Electro-comm. Probably a bit more
from TT.
