I've been having problems with Powershots at the very point you describe. I had one customer yelling at me Wednesday about how my service isn't dependable and I went to their place to check. Everything was dead. I looked at the aB Powershot and no green light. I put my hand on it to check it out and the light started coming on and going off with each movement. It's up under a couter top where nothing will bother it, yet it's been giving me fits with their equipment. I replaced the Powershot with a new one and double checked the stability, now they're good to go. That was the second Powershot I've had to act that way. Maybe I'll learn sooner or later what to check first.

I'm not posting this as an indictment against sB, just that there seems to be some design problem where the wallwart connects to the Powershot.

Thanks for sticking up for me and all the rest of us frustrated LOYAL

do know how to make this stuff work...which sad to say is NOT plug and play.
But...once you get to know the little tweaks, it works DAMN well!!!!!

UNTIL....BIG UNTIL...this latest batch of screwed up equipment. This stuff
just does all kinds of weird stuff. And...I found 2 more bad POE units
today as well. I believe it is loose connectivity in the power cord at the
little chrome plug again....wiggle it one way and it works....wiggle it the
other way and dead as a doornail.

Anyway....I am very frustrated...and very tired. My most loyal of customers
are now questioning my service. That is a stab to my heart! I live and
breath this stuff and the problems do NOT LIE WITH MY ABILITIES!!

I wish sB could just go back to their old manufacturer and old chip
set...and give me some good stuff again!!

Well...back to my lab.

I will say it again. Having us (sully) test stuff for SB is a waste. We can only do so much we are not engineers. What you do in the lab is MUCH MUCH MUCH different in the real world. SB you guys are in a clean environment and in perfect conditions, yes I am sure you can duplicate some scenarios but not all. Maybe it is time to send someone on a 2 week road trip to see these units and how they do or do not perform as designed IN the field so you can see first hand our findings and frustrations and give is input as well as give yourselves input on what is going on. You ALWAYS and I do mean always find it to be a fault with the installation. Look at this problem for example he has exhausted his resources trying to figure it out, he explained twice or maybe three times now the original APPO works well just cuts out and he puts the NEW one up and it does not work even 1/8 as long as his original unit.

It seems you need some real help in the trouble shooting skill area. I was a
tech support manager for over 8 years and that was my job to troubleshoot
things no offense Engineers are NOT always good trouble shooters unless they
can put test equipment on the device and have HARD evidence to explain what
is going on. There is no way in hell you can tell me you can try and figure
all these problems out without sending one of your engineers or techs out to
see what's going on. You have wasted many man hours of your own time as well
as ours tying to fix problems you don't seem to think it is related to the
equipment??

Once you send someone out and they are either stumped or maybe they will see
something and say OHH HEY that should not be like that we need to change
this cap or resistor to a better value etc then your only wasting man-hours
for all.

SEND SOMEONE OUT of all the time and effort you put into all this and still
not got much of anywhere (yes the new firmware did help but still others are
having problems) you could have sent your whole team roundtrip to Orlando
Disney world for a week..

Do yourself and us a favor send someone out in the field, if it were my
company I would unless there is something you already know and are afraid to
confirm by coming out in the field. Our jobs / lives are on hold waiting for
your answers to these problems and for those of us that have stuck with you
thick and thin you need to at least do us this one favor...

If its not an SB problem then sure we are at fault but there has to be some
logical answer as to why these units have all of a sudden been a real pain
in the ass!

Same location...different outlet. If it were a power problem (which I suspected as well), then why would it work with the aPPo on the roof right now, but not work with the 2 new aPPo's??

I did swap the POE unit twice to confirm.

Yes I can confirm that keeping the antenna port open will not harm the radio.

Is there a difference in the quality of AC power at these locations?

Why are they working in the garage ? To many variables are still there !
Use the same length of 10baseT cable, same essid, same wep, same
channel. If you can't do that in your garage take it someplace else.
What kind of clients are they ? Are they all SB's or a mixture ?

Is anyone sure that not connecting an antenna will not do something bad
to the radio ?

I agree that it sounds coincidental...but why did it happen?!?

I changed the antennas and power supplies 2 times. As a matter of

fact,

I had to go back to my original power supply because one of the power
supplies that came with the aPPo had a faulty cable (that was an easy
find during initial setup).

I am only running 45 ft of cable.

I never give up...so...here I am in my garage at 1:00am with a test
setup. I have one of the (suspected) bad aPPo's running now for about

3

hours with no problems. However, I only have 1 client connected to
it...and that is me.

Differences with this garage setup over the head-end:
1. Only 1 client online
2. Different SSID (by one letter)
3. Different WEP (by a few letters)
4. Different channel (freq)
5. No antenna connected to the aPPo right now
6. Different CAT5 feeding the signal to it (only 5 ft run now)

All other factors are the same:
1. Internal MAC authentication
2. Power Supply
3. etc.....

I have NOOOOO idea why 2 units did not work on the roof?!?!?

The Ethernet light would come on...the TXRX light would start
flashing...and all was well for 5-10 minutes. Then DEAD! I put the
original (going bad) aPPo back up...and it works fine. I put one of

the

(suspected) bad units back up...and 5 minutes...dead. I put the
original one back up...and it is working fine.

Looks like bad units to me?!>! But...why are they working here in the
garage?? Are these units SUPER sensitive to power...cause I am only
running 5 ft of CAT 5 in here...as opposed to the 45 ft on the
roof...with same power supply.

What is the voltage of the power adapter you are using?

2 units failing with the exact same symptoms is a little more than
co-incidence can explain. Perhaps it points to something else.

Oh...forgot one thing. During the 5 minute period of the aPPo's
working...I was watching the statistics and noticed that the unit's

kept

rebooting. The statistics would keep going back to zero. Then it just
died.

What the heck is going on?!?!?

Importance: High

I received an aPPo from Electro-Comm that I PAID EXTRA for to have it
overnighted to me so that I could replace a faulty aPPo (firmware
issue).

First thing I did was upgrade the firmware like the STICKER says on the
box. Then burned in my settings with simpleDeploy. All went well.

I replaced it and it worked like a champ--all clients reassociated!
Woohooo!! Five minutes later clients started dropping off and the
Ethernet side died! I did a power reset and it came back up but only a
few clients associated back up with it. So...I waited a couple minutes
and the Ethernet side died again.

I reflashed it...I lowered the firmware...I reflashed it...I upgraded
the firmware...I replaced the powershot twice...I did EVERYTHING! The
Ethernet side would keep crashing. In case it matters to anyone...it
was only 70 degrees here today.

So...I put my old unit back up (after only 3 hours of MY LABOR WAISTED)
and it worked fine. My old unit periodically crashes..and that is why

I

am RMAing it.

Yesterday...I received my stock (and spares) from Electro-Comm. I
started the process ALL OVER AGAIN...with the exact same results (3

more

hours waisted). The Ethernet side DIED after 5 minutes.

I am once again back on my old aPPo...I have a bunch of pissed off
customers....and I am VERY pissed myself. I am soooo sick of spending
hours upon hours replacing bad equipment.

sB...can you please send me 2 aPPo's from Singapore...that you have
actually verified work for longer than 5 minutes?!?!
