Great info Tom. I have tried just
about all of this…but some is really new to me. For example, teaching a dog to salivate when
you ring a bell…..I mean, pinging a device for a week, to teach it who’s the boss.
That is really a new one.

I cant get into
those locked out units with user or admin password on the wireless side. I have been avoiding the truck roll-out
to 18 homes, hoping sB would come out with a fix. Actually…I don’t have to
roll-out…when the customer performs a manual reset to factory default (my
settings), then all is well again. Add that to you bag-o-tricks.
The RSSI comments have me a bit
stumped. These are in ACCESS POINT
mode. RSSI doesn’t play a
factor.

I will throw my name in
the hat for possible WISP visitations.
Not only is the Monterey area very beautiful with outstanding weather, I also believe that
with the number of WEIRD issues that my equipment has will really provide you
with “bang for the buck”. We are by the way, a pure
smartBridges WISP.
Let me outline my current
problem set:
1. Several units will not allow me to log in with simpleMonitor (but
will respond to MRTG and simpleNMS).
[TEH->] Try logging several times, localy
if needed. If you can't get in still, log in as 'USER' then go to 'Site
Settings' and select 'select from available access points', click on the one it
should be associated with, then click 'associate'. A window will pop up
and ask for the administrative password. Enter your admin password and hi
enter. You are now in admin mode and can go to the security tab. However
you get in, reset the password to what you want two times or more.
2. Most of my aPPo’s (client bridge mode) will not allow longer
than 3 character passwords
[TEH->] From a directly connected
machine, apply the 1.04 firmware. Log in and reset your password. Logout
and apply the 1.06 firmware.
3. My head-end and one of my repeaters (both in access point mode)
fail intermittently ß june equipment
[TEH->] If RSSI is < 60%, put a
slightly higher gain antenna on it. Once the RSSI is > 60%, using
'Dial-a-power' set the output to 15dB or lower untill the signal drops by 2-3%
but is still above 60%. Unplug the radio of 15 minutes. From a directly
connected machine reapply latest firmware. If unit still looses
association, plug the radio in to a good power filter or try response to
question 4.
4. 11 of my newly deployed airBridges are losing association ß june equipment
[TEH->] Try response to question 3 first.
If that still fails, keep simpleNMS open and polling the radios that
will not stay connected. Alternatly, run a script that pings each radio
once every minute. After running this for a week the radios should stay
connected without the ping. I don't know the reason for this. Please keep
a log of which fix cured which problems along with the MAC of the radio, the
brand of NIC, hub, switch or router that it is plugged in to and the OS of
the machine if directly connected.
I think that about covers
it. So…as you can see, you
would be knocking out quite a few “field” issues with just one
visit. I could give you from Thursday
afternoon through Sunday evening solid of my time. That is 3.5 days. I think that would do it.
Oh…one more thing
to consider when deciding on which WISP to visit…should be the terrain of
the WISP deployment. We have ZERO
tree issues, and ZERO hills issues.
Perfectly flat, new housing areas with ~13000 homes that have NO
high-speed options (no dsl or cable).
There is one other WISP in the area that is using FHSS. What I am saying here is….we are
not dealing with any other factors besides sB equipment and the installation
process itself.

Nish if one of the isp's invites seeni or one of the
sbtech's to actually see in the field tests would they come? Because I know bobby
and a few others would most likely very well opt for this we need to get what
is wrong assessed NOW not later, I'm sure sb can spare 1 tech for a few days to
watch a few installs and to check out the radios that are messing up in the
field and go back and form a analysis report and work from there shit I have a
feeling some of these guys wud pay for the trip to come to them althought
that's kinda unfair can we get a word from yaz sb.... (note me im fine I have
little probs with sb only a few bad clients that the boys at ecomm have taken
care of so far all AP's are working but as of sept1 we areturning on 3 more so
lets see then)
