Thanks Kevin. The utility company is good if you really need to be up
really quick. If sB keeps having issues then I may stat away from limited
access areas.

$700 a month for access to a utility pole is steep, and if
the poles carry power then you are not likely going to get
to do the installs (or maintenance) yourself. Our power company
has some nice huge 100-150' high power towers around here that
I would love to get on, but they insist (for obvious reasons)
that they do all the tower work, which means when there is a
problem I would have to pay through the nose and am at the
mercy of THEIR schedule.

In the end you are likely better off finding a hill and putting
up a 98' guyed tower.

I say 90' because in most areas if you hit 100' or above then
FAA lighting is required. (more expense and headache and paperwork
and approvals from other agencies...)

As for receiving signal. I've been able to pick up 43% RSSI with
my laptop INSIDE our workshop which is 3/4 of a mile from our tower.
We of course can't associate with the AP because the laptop card
doesn't have enough power to get signal back to the tower, but it's
still fairly impressive.

Our tower has an AirPoint Indoor, 85 feet of LMR400, 500mW AMP, a
band pass filter, and a Maxrad 14db 90* sector antenna.
