<ON: I was trying to help but now you got me in a pissy mood> > So thanks for finally agreeing with me to bad you had to start off > claiming that I needed to do some reading on GPS systems
Huh? My first post said 'I use a GPS and a compass... :)' Your first post said: 'GPS will not tell direction...' > when you > later on agrees to what I said all a long.. sigh.. Let's review... I started off by saying that 'I use a GPS and a compass'. You started off by saying 'GPS will not tell direction...' and now that we have come to agreement that you need both a GPS and a compass to do the job, you say I have come around to YOUR way of thinking? Man, if that ain't revisionist history... What I can't figure out is how you got it in your head in the first place that I was saying that a GPS could show heading. I never said that... The whole thing stems from the use of the word(s) 'direction' or 'directions'... neither of which really belong in a discussion of GPS or navigation in general. The words generally used are course, heading and bearing. They have specific meanings (unlike the more general 'direction') and if you re-read my posts you will see that I used them correctly and that every statement I made was true. In hindsight, in your first post, when you said 'GPS will not tell direction' you meant 'heading'. I responded thinking that you meant 'bearing' when you said 'direction' because of your math instructions that were designed to reveal the bearing. It became obvious in your second post that you were using 'direction' to mean 'heading'. One I figured that out it became clear we were both saying the same thing... >You don't need to teach me how to use a GPS. Well, like I knew that in advance... based on the evidence at the time, you seemed to be claiming that a GPS would not give you bearing. Please forgive me Oh Great One for presuming to know something and trying to share. My instructions were given in the spirit of trying to help. You don't need to get snippy about it. Dave Note: all references to GPS above mean a standalone or handheld GPS built in the last 10 years and available for less than $100 on eBay... not a neutered peripheral device that just spits out GLL NMEA strings... <OFF: I was trying to help but now you got me in a pissy mood> --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Declude Virus] ----------ANNOUNCEMENT---------- Don't forget to register for WISPCON IV http://www.wispcon.info/us/wispcon-iv/wispcon-iv.htm The PART-15.ORG smartBridges Discussion List To Join: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (in the body type subscribe smartBridges <yournickname> To Remove: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (in the body type unsubscribe smartBridges) Archives: http://archives.part-15.org
