Brian,
Thanks for the info. I got the issue solved. I installed one WUSB11 the other day
at a customers house and went flawless. This one was a pain could not figure the
difference. Went and looked a the working unit and it is a Version 2.0 and the one
giving me problems is a version 2.6. So I tried the version 2.0 drivers on the 2.6
unit and no luck. went with version 2.0 drivers and device and works like a champ. My
guess why the Version 2.6 is working on my laptop is because it is USB 2.0 and the
clients PC is 1.1 may just be something in the USB ports and the drivers.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,
Apologies, but I couldn't find any reference to XP on any site I found selling this
product - Linksys published product info does not mention it either. It seems to be a
closely guarded secret as there are sooo many folks having issues with this and XP -
google.

The answer might be in the drivers, and Linksys have their own XP driver available,
quite seperate from the 98/me/2k driver - one issue sorted is 128WEP (I have read -
please don't shoot the messenger ! - You say you can associate, so wep must be doing
something right...) Having said that, I see its quite old and so probably already
included in your supplied s/w. There is a note to uninstall previous drivers first -
which I guess means the XP driver from MS which the XP hardware detector will use by
default.

The only issue I have is that in Win XP, it does require you to do a couple of things
before the device can be stabilized. You will first have to download the newest
drivers, and since the adapter isn't stable at first, you may have to use another
computer to download the drivers and burn them to a CD or something. Then, you will
probably have to disable Wireless Zero in Win XP (check the web for how to do this,
VERY easy). Then use the utility program that came with the adapter to configure it to
your network. Sounds tough? Well it took longer for me to write this review than it
took to set up the adapter to complete working order.

For sB units: Are you saying you can't pass traffic with fixed IP (and correct default
gateway) on a single PC connected directly to an AB with WEP disabled (easier to test)
? Any clues in "ipconfig /all" I've had some awkward moments with the network
bridging stuff that XP sets itself up for when there are USB dial-up modems etc on the
machine.

        Brian,

Thanks for your message. First off this unit is compatible with
WindowsXP per the product box and per techsupport who has spent hours with me working
on this issue. I do not have sp1 or anything so I will try to do a window update and
see fit hat helps. I Can connect to a AP that does not have WEP and it works just
fine. I have installed USB devices on MANY XP machines and they work fine with SB
products. My laptop also has XP SP1 on it. No XP firewall set. The whole idea of using
the USB is cost.$39 vs. $250+ I use the WUSB11 on my laptop and am sold on it. By
far less problems then SB products give and more flexibility for hose users who only
have a laptop... wus'y it may be but by far more reliable then SB products I have
been using. BTW I have the same issue with 2 ABT that I have. They can associate with
the tower but never pass traffic one is a older one from June and one is the newer
ones that have the white mounting bracket. I have reset and reset and reset the unit
and still no luck. Any ideas on the SB units?

        Thanks,

        Steve

check out reviews on amazon.com - few have a good word for this unit. XP
doesn't feature in the compatibility list (nor 95 or NT), although some have tried and
failed - apparently WEP does not work with XP ? wierd ! That would stop traffic
passing . You don't say what os you have on laptop - not XP ?

As with all USB products, (and even without wep) you'll need to get drivers
and all the latest MS patch stuff in place first - not too suprised a clean install
fails.

ping might be stopped by XP firewall (except local). When you set static ip,
was def gateway set correctly ?

Why not get on the wagon and go for sB ethernet product (at least to get the
100Mb+ patches down first !). Dump USB - far too difficult to get working consistently
and too dependant on MS vaguaries.

Looks like the clue is in the product name - WUS.

Has anyone had any experience using a Linksys WUSB11 USB radio on SB
products? I have one unit that I have been using on my laptop and works great. I have
a customer that is lOS and less then mile to the tower and I can connect to the
tower with my laptop and the WUSB11 just fine get good signal and transfer great. I
take the same radio and plug it into a customer PC (GATEWAY e-3400) and the computer
will associate with the AP but never obtain a IP or if I change to static it will
never pass traffic. I can ping the local IP but can not ping the radio I am associated
to or anything else. Problem started when plugged into a WIN98se machine. Had the same
problem. Upgraded to XP pro still had the same problem, did a clean install if XP
still same problem, replaced computer and STILL same problem. I can take this WUSB11
and plug into my laptop and it works just fine, plug-in to customers PC and nothing,
go back to my laptop and fine. I am with out answers and hoping someone else can
explain. I have WEP and MAC athu in place and IT has to work if my laptop is working
with the same radio. I have reset the radio SB outdoor PRO with 180 sector. Anyone
have any suggestions?

                Thanks in advance,

                Steve Good
