Hi there,

I just successfully tested smartmontools v. 5.39 (lenny-backports) under
Debian with my Western Digital MyBook Essential 1,5TB

Here's what I got:

# smartctl -q noserial -a /dev/sda

smartctl 5.39 2009-12-09 r2995 [i686-pc-linux-gnu] (local build)
Copyright (C) 2002-9 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net

/dev/sda: Unknown USB bridge [0x1058:0x1110 (0x1030)]
Smartctl: please specify device type with the -d option.

Let me know if you need any further information.

BTW: The wiki of supported USB Devices reads:
"If you have a device not on this list, please tell us the test result."
Would be cool if you could write to which address the result should go...
