Did you try '-d ata' ?

The device type autodetection in os_solaris.cpp was not updated since 
2003 and is likely no longer suitable for current Solaris versions.

No. Device type detection is platform specific.

Looks like garbage data is returned for the (now outdated) Summary SMART 
error log. May be a device or OS problem.

Please try whether '-l xerror' provides a more reasonable result.

Probably. Running the test on another OS may return correct error log data.
