Many never USB bridges support the vendor independent SAT protocol. 
Please try "smartctl -d sat ...".

If this does not work, this Prolific bridge likely provides a vendor 
specific pass-through command. We cannot implement this without 
documentation.

In the past, I asked various USB bridge vendors for information: JMicron 
and Sunplus were very cooperative. There was no answer from Prolific. So 
there are -d usbjmicron and -d usbsunplus but no -d usbprolific.
