you are absolutely right, disabling chroot for anvil by putting
service anvil {
chroot=
}
into conf.d/10-master.conf fixes the anvil crash. I tested this in an
old 14.4.1
SmartOS zone. Since this zone isn't quite functional I can't do further
tests.
