We went with this model

and have  few of these too (same mobo) (
http://www.supermicro.com/products/system/1U/1028/SYS-1028U-TR4_.cfm

LSI 3008 HBAs and intel 10G SFP network cards.

To be honest I struggled to find a server which didn't work with SmartOS,
trialed a number of re-purposed IBM servers with wildly different HW
components/generations all worked so far.

The only non compatible component I came across was a 10G Mellanox Nic.
