I believe the above depends on the kernel version. My reading tells me that as 
of kernel 2.6.33
write barriers are implemented correctly in which case, could I assume that it 
would be safe to use LVM?

Now, I know that RHEL/CentOS backport many kernel upstream fixes/features but, 
so far, I can't find
any categoric evidence that the LVM write barriers have been brought back into 
the current CentOS 6
kernel. :-/
