Firmware rev 0001, 0002, 0004, and a004 work. Firmware rev 0003 is broken
because someone didn't read or understand the spec. In other words, the
spec is right and FMA follows the spec, the firmware is wrong.
Just my luck:

name='inquiry-revision-id' type=string items=1
           value='0003'

A firmware update to 0004 does not resolve the problem. I assume the
"bridge" firmware Mark mention in the other thread is still required to
reset the thresholds.

Has anyone else here had this problem and managed to get a solution form Seagate? I'm not getting very far and this system build is turning into a bit of a nightmare :(

I guess I could build my own image with a modified disk-transport.conf (I'm currently testing the system thermals with OmniOS and temp-multiple disabled), but that is a path I'd rather not tread.
