While zookeeper is perhaps not our favourite piece of software in the world, sometimes the expedient path is to include some external software in your stack. For instance, we have also made some use of RabbitMQ, and Erlang is a _far_ more bizarro, off-the-wall runtime environment than Java. -- Joshua M.
