I added a intel 3700 SSD to the following zpool so that it looks like this:
[root@SmartOS ~]# zpool status
pool: zones
state: ONLINE
scan: resilvered 904G in 8h37m with 0 errors on Tue Jan 20 15:13:20 2015
config:

zones ONLINE 0 0 0

I then yanked the pulled the slog device out of the drive cage and rebooted
the box. SmartOS boots into the configuration/installer routine.
Long story short, when I was testing last week I added an Intel 3700 to
this machine just to see how it would perform because Ian said he was
getting such good results with it. I confirmed the good results Ian was
getting, but this was the only Intel 3700 I had on hand and I needed it
elsewhere. I was in a hurry and just yanked it one morning on my way out
the door because this is mainly a test machine. I then ordered a few more
Intel 3700s. I left the SmartOS box powered on during this time. Tonight
I popped in one of the new SSDs and rebooted the machine just to make sure
the RAID card bios identified the SSD properly (Yes, I should have removed
the old slog device first) and then the box booted into the configuration
screen.
