In addition to maintaining local snapshots, it can backup to a local or remote
destination over mbuffer or ssh with zfs send/receive.
It stores its configuration as zfs properties and comes with an interactive
configuration editor, so it’s very easy to manage.
You can configure thinning separately for the primary system and the backup, e.
g. keep hourly backups for 2 days, keep daily backups for 1 month, etc.
