Ah, I get it. That's making more sense to me now. I'll do some testing tomorrow.

Thank you for your help Jorge

With a new pkgsrc release a day or two later a base-xxx release will follow
that uses the new pkgsrc release.

So you reprovision your zone to the new base image and you will have the new
pkgsrc version.

Thank you for your prompt reply Jorge. I assume that you are meaning what you
wrote in your blog post from March 22nd, 2015. I just don't see how doing this
helps me. My VM has pkgsrc preinstalled so if I reprovision won't it still have
the same pkgsrc and surely I'll be in the same situation?

Check the man for vmadm for the 'reprovision' command.

Do note that this wipes all your data and config that is not in a delegated
dataset!

It takes some getting used to, for now I use a user-script to rebuild my zone
and have my data on a dataset and it works great.

Hi

Firstly I'd like to thank Jonathan Perkin for his hard work doing pkgsrc.

But could someone please enlighten me by giving me a pointer on how I upgrade a
VM on SmartOS to a new pkgsrc release. Is the reason that I can't seem to find
any documentation on how to do this because I shouldn't be attempting it? Or am
I being a halfwit and I should just bootstrap the new pkgsrc over the top of
the old version that was preinstalled on the image?

Thanks for any advice
