The first important questions to answer are how much are you willing to spend and what is it that you want to do with the machine? Are you trying to have a large amount of tenancy? Are you going to be primarily file serving over HTTP? Are you going to be running databases? Basically what's your target working set for the machine going to be? Is it an amount of memory that can fit in DRAM?
