This is emphatically not the design centre of SmartOS.  The system was
built from the ground up to focus on isolated, per-server pooled
storage.  The use of local storage is how we drive better and more
predictable storage performance, as well as avoid the complexity and
reliability issues of network-attached storage.

We generally recommend that fault tolerance or availability concerns
be addressed at the application level; e.g., through replicated or HA
databases and application stacks, running across multiple servers.
