That's my initial reaction as well, though it really depends on what
Samsung has in mind for Joyent, and how independent it will be.
It could be that they're looking at Illumos as an alternative to Android
for their smartphones. If so,
- their smartphone software is a case of "allmost, but not quite" - I've
been using the Samsung Note for years, and their software has
interesting functionality, but key things tend to be missing, and there
are weird bugs (particularly when it comes to Mac syncing) -- I'd be a
bit worried about both their overall management of software
development/deployment/support, and that a focus on mobile will be at
the expense of server-side applications
- if they're trying to make a data center play, then this might be a
good thing - depending on how well they play in the open source
ecosystem (where they don't seem to have much of a footprint to date)
Meanwhile, I think I'm happy that I'm still in the experimental phase
with Illumos distros, and still using Linux for operational servers.

Anyone else have a thought? I'm assuming this is going to help the
ecosystem with resources, and trickle down to Illumos.
