From a brief look at an older rev of the spec, it seem like it's certainly possible for someone to do the driver work to allow that to happen, though I don't know how much that's currently baked into the model. While similar, I'd probably make sure to look at the version of the virtio devices that are in illumos and illumos-joyent.
