Well it;s kind of related to SmartOS/Solaris. I use a piece of software called Shibboleth-sp, It compiles fine on Linux but I've never been able to compile for SmartOS or OpenIndiana and I've read mailing lists about it not compiling on Solaris 11. So I thought I'd try my luck using the pkgbuild image and it still failed to compile, again with the same error. But in the pkgbuild build environment I set CFLAGS=-fpermissive and it compiled OK. I'm not in any way shape or form a software engineer but is what I've done safe? Like I said, it compiles fine without any source or env modifications on Linux.

If it is at all specific to SmartOS then here is correct as we have a bunch of specific changes and infrastructure for building on SmartOS. If it's a general pkgsrc question then it may be best to use [email protected] (or [email protected] if it is specific to pkgsrc infrastructure and code) as you will then have the full pkgsrc community at your disposal. There are also the #pkgsrc and #smartos channels on Freenode IRC where we can quickly answer any questions.
