Tried OmniOS as suggested... after hitting the enter at the boot menu got the following:
loading /platform/i86pc/amd64/boot_archive No rootfs module provided, aborting booting /platform/i86pc/kernel/amd64/unix No rootfs module provided, aborting Then was dropped to an "OK" prompt.
