Yes, you can. Triton is designed for a more deterministic and holistic 
management approach (i.e., you *can* make instances with dhcp, but triton 
doesn't make that easy), before I ran Triton at home I used dhcp on all of my 
instances with my stand alone SmartOS servers.

I still use these for testing SmartOS, so they all still work even though they 
haven't been modified recently.
