Good afternoon SmartOS community, I’m trying to find out if illumos bugs 6569 and 7504 affecting ZFS from illumos-gate have been included in illumos-joyent. I couldn’t find an easy way to search for this specific context. If you can point me to the right docs I would appreciate it. The changelog on Manta is not easily searchable.
7504 appears to be affecting SmartOS ZFS after I did an OS change from OmniOS to the latest SmartOS build 20180315T080815Z on one of our customers NFS appliances and it is affecting them badly today. I’m concerned about 6569 because of another migration that is on our schedule for a different customer who uses VMware on ZFS/NFS. I built ZFS from source for OmniOS to resolve these bugs around 6 months ago and I’m wondering if I would need to rebuild ZFS on SmartOS or if I could drop my ZFS module into the platform directory on the USB key and reboot. I am aware that NFS/ZFS appliances aren’t the core focus of SmartOS but it seemed to work great in my testing and usage in our datacenter so I made the decision to only use SmartOS across the board in remote customer environments rather than to work with multiple illumos distros. Primarily since we run Triton and vanilla SmartOS hosts in our datacenter environment today. Basically what is happening with 7504 is that when copying large files from one directory to another over NFS, ZFS seems to block all of the IO on the system and brings their network to a crawl. The server has 512GB of RAM a 512GB nvme SLOG and a 512GB NVME read cache in addition 2 4 8 core AMD sockets. (No Zones or VM’s running). There are 60 spinners divided by 20 raidz stripes. Any help is greatly appreciated. Also if I need to switch back to a different distro that advice is also appreciated. I would really just like to use SmartOS if possible. Have a great day!
