Yes, I have the same md5sum.  I did it all over again with the same
results, ms5-rc3 gets stuck at the console.  However ms5-rc2 boots okay
and If I flash the fso-testing rootfs along with the ms5-rc3 kernel it
boots okay.

Interestingly with ms5-rc3 I get the text "Please wait: booting..."
Normally  I don't see that.
