You are asking the wrong person, so I include the list. I have used my neo in the past as a phone, and "it just worked". So: What does it mean, the phone dies? Can you still login via network? Does a ssh-session still respond? Can you have a look into the logfiles $HOME/.xsession-errors /tmp/frameworkd.log and similar. Have you tried to install strace, connect it to the zhone process and then call the phone? Any clues? There are several entries about loglevels in /etc/frameworkd.conf. Maybe it helps to increase them to "info" level and then call the phone? Provided you get to the logfiles. I'm afraid the logs get deleted when rebooting. This list is a good place to ask, but more details would be needed.
