I think that causes it to go into the maintenance state. Because consider the non-DR equivalent: I make an SMF config for datalink bge0, with VLAN on top. It is saved. Now power off the box. Now remove bge0 card. Now boot. At this point I will attempt to start bge0 datalink service, but no bge0 device anymore -- so I should get maintenance state, telling me to either fix or delete my config.
