This is one of the reasons that we use monit instead of SMF to monitor
our services. http://tildeslash.com/monit/

The main other reason we use monit, is that it can monitor memory
usage, and restart daemons if they are either taking up to much memory
or CPU. (One of the libraries we use has a memory leak).
