I scanned your earlier messages, but didn't do more than a quick scan - thus
it's possible I've missed something.
I'm assuming you're running a current debian version and are using a debian
packaged smokeping. [2.6.11 *is* pretty old (late 2014), but I don't think
that's the source of your problem - but it makes me wonder about how current
your debian install is. Which, is again, unlikely to be the source of your
issue - but it's something to consider for the longer term - security and OS
updates...]
So, nothing changed that was a proximal cause of the problem? Like a debian
upgrade? It just spontaneously broke?

How sure are you that the RRD's are updated? This is the first place I'd start
looking.
Running in debug mode often helps.
smokeping --debug
Watch the output.

Enpty graphs is a common symptom of RRD's not getting the data - and that's
usually a permissions issue. But the PNG's will get produced.
