Hi,

No experience with Macs, however don't rule out IP modems. I.e. modems
that don't use the serial or usb ports but a direct IP connection with
the PC.
For example: http://www.multitech.com/PRODUCTS/Families/MultiModemGPRS/

I don't have experience with Multitech either - this is just an
example.
