I tried both the trials for lightroom and apperture when they first came
out. They both had very similar features, but I plumped for Lightroom in
the end, becuase I found I could work through a series of photos quicker
with that program than with apperture. I still use iPhoto to catalog
everything, but i export TIFs in lightroom to take to the printers, and I
backup the original NEF files to dvd to archive them. Apperture wants to be
your one stop shop, and I think Lightroom is more flexible to different
workflows. This was using the first versions of each software and I haven't
upgraded yet.
