I took delivery of Aperture 2.1.1 this week. Very pleased. Being in education, I bought it from the Apple store and it only cost £47 + VAT! A real bargain, I think. If you’ve got kids, buy it for them…
I’ve not used Lightroom so I am not in a position to compare them but don’t think you could beat the value for money at that price. They both had very similar features, but I plumped for Lightroom in the end, becuase I found I could work through a series of photos quicker with that program than with apperture. I still use iPhoto to catalog everything, but i export TIFs in lightroom to take to the printers, and I backup the original NEF files to dvd to archive them. Apperture wants to be your one stop shop, and I think Lightroom is more flexible to different workflows. This was using the first versions of each software and I haven't upgraded yet.
