Archive & reinstall is definitely the best way to go for an upgrade,  
you shouldn't have to reinstall apps unless (like Parallels) they  
install system extensions. If your MacBook's running slugishly, I'd  
look at the RAM, did you upgrade the RAM as well? 2GB or 4GB is best  
depending on which MacBook model you have. The model with the volume  
controls on F10-F12 will support 4GB maximum.

Google Desktop's a culprit for slowing things down as well. Also keep  
in mind that the system will be slow at first while Spotlight indexes  
your hard drive, once that's finished the computer should pick up a bit.

Couldn't hurt to download the 10.5.5 combo updater and re-run it.
