Hi Michael Book the iBook from the OS X installer disc and choose "Reset Password" from the Utilities menu, follow the instructions and reset the password that way. You'll look access to your keychain (and subsequently your saved passwords) so it's a good idea to delete it and start a new one with your new password. It can be found in your home folder > library > keychains.
As for your DVD drive, have you tried another brand of disc?
