Normally I would say yes but the fact that Apple have pulled iMovie 06  
from their sites would lead me to believe that they may have updated  
the shared iLife systems so they require iMovie 7 or 8 as a minimum.  
That said they could also just be trying to encourage people to update.

I'd say do a full backup to your external drive (Time Machine or  
SuperDuper clone) then install iLife 09 and see if you can use iMovie 6.
