Okay first of all create an admin account
open preferences
then accounts
then on the right will be a list of all accounts. If you only have one it will
be an admin account.
Go to the bottom to open the padlock, enter the user password.
Then click on the + to add an account. I call mine admin to make it easy
Enter a password for that account. It can be anything even the same as the one
you are currently using. So you will have two accounts with the same password
so you do not confuse yourself. One is an admin account and the other is a user
account. You work in the user account so if anything does get on it only
affects that one account, and does not get admin status.
Then check the box that "Allow user to administer this computer"
Once you have that set up do the reverse for your main account,
basically uncheck the "Allow user to administer this computer" box
You might want to then change the login items so that Automatic login disabled

When you have finished you should click the padlock to lock the changes
test that you are happy with the changes.
Also change the preferences in the browser to not auto run anything that is a
real open door policy so you need to close it.

The best thing to do is to change your main account to a simple user account
but set up an admin account for installing software. This will stop them
getting control of your system. Also make sure that your firewall is on.

Can someone please walk me through those to processes?

1. change account to simple user account
2. be sure firewall is on

Haven't a clue...

on camino brower and all of a sudden all that infection gibberish came up with;
inadvertently downloaded 3 thingys I promptly trashed after having to force
quit to get of Camino.
