System Prefs/Accounts/. Find the + at the bottom (you might need to click on padlock first) and create an account -- look for checkbox to 'allow user to administer this user'. When you have an admin user account, I think it lets you uncheck that box for YOUR account. Henceforth when you get a box to put in your password you will have to use the admin user name not your own, and the password for that account. But it's more secure.
